Track 2: Viral Hepatitis A and E

Hepatitis has been classified into four different types (Hepatitis A, B, C and E) but over two billions of individuals were infected with hepatitis B at some point in their life and around 350 million people are persistent carriers of the virus. With widespread vaccines and blood screening, the incidence of hepatitis B has been significantly decreased. But, hepatitis B and hepatitis C are accountable for up to 80% of liver cancer cases.

About 170 million persons have hepatitis C. The global liver disease therapeutics market totalled $24.5 billion in 2014, with the U.S. contributing $9.1 billion, and is anticipating a global market of $33.8 billion by 2019, according to a press release.
